Important Info for Riders Using a Motorcycle Supplied by PDC
PDC Bikes – Registration
If you’re planning to use a PDC bike for the Paris-Dakar Challenge, there are a few special conditions you’ll need to agree to. This page explains how it works — it’s all very straightforward.
Admin & Border Requirements
To ensure smooth border crossings in certain African countries, riders must be registered to the motorcycle they are riding.
So if you’re using a PDC bike, you will:
- Be temporarily registered as the keeper of the motorcycle for the duration of the trip
- Sign it back to PDC at the end (we handle all the paperwork)
- Be supported throughout — it’s simple, quick and handled in advance
This is purely an administrative measure to keep things legal and stress-free at checkpoints. You’re not buying the bike — you’re just the registered keeper for the trip.
Who’s Responsible for the Bike?
Even though the bike is registered in your name for the trip:
- PDC will provide your riding insurance while in the UK, EU and Morocco
- PDC is responsible for getting it to the finish line
- We provide mechanical support, spares, and tools
- If there’s a breakdown or something major — we handle it
Like all riders, you’re expected to:
- Ride sensibly and respectfully
- Take care of basic daily checks (oil, tyres, mirrors, etc.)
- Report any problems early so we can deal with them
Summary of what you’re agreeing to
- You’ll be temporarily registered as the keeper of the bike
- You’ll sign it back at the end
- You’ll treat the bike responsibly and tell us if anything needs attention
FAQs
Q: Am I buying the bike?
No — you’re just temporarily registered as the keeper. The bike is still owned by PDC throughout, and PDC will revert back to being the registered keeper at the end of the trip.
Q: What if there’s a major problem?
We’ve got your back. PDC handles all major repairs and breakdowns for you.
Q: What if I drop it or cause cosmetic damage?
This is an adventure. Scratches, dents, and drops are part of the deal. As long as you’re riding carefully and in good faith, we won’t bill you for cosmetic damage.
